In her own words: My motivation for working with students each day *is* my students. Their views of the world are refreshing and inspiring. I love being able to have an influence on their free-thinking and critical thinking about their world. They're creative and clever and I get to watch them grow as humans and into who they will be when they move into the 'real world'; that is something I never take for granted and feel privileged to be able to share with them.

At Pikes Peak Prep, she teaches secondary English and has been an advisor for Student Council and Yearbook for 3 years.  In addition, she is an adjunct English instructor at Pikes Peak Community College.

Ms. Skarns believes in her students' abilities to grow into people who think freely and critically about the world around them.  She is confident that the road they are on at Pikes Peak Prep will provide them with the tools they will need for college and beyond.

In her free time, Ms. Skarns enjoys writing, hiking, spending time with her dog Karma and her partner, and watching movies.
