 Rick Freehling was born in Denver, CO and graduated from Regis High School.  He then attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE, graduated with a business degree, played baseball, and met his wife of 19 years, Antonia (Toni), a Colorado Springs native.  Rick and Toni have three kids: Ceresa (18) who is attending Young Americans College of the Performing Arts in Corona, CA; Alena (13); and Cael (10).  Rick and his wife own a dance studio together (Toni teaches and Rick pays the bills.) 

Rick received his master’s degree in education from Regis University and is currently working on his Master’s in administration.    

Rick began his teaching career at 28 years old at Carmel Middle School in Harrison School District 2 in Social Studies and Math.  Nine years ago he began teaching in the 21st Century Program, the first two years of the program at Carmel and the last seven at Harrison High School, teaching math & science reasoning, critical thinking and reasoning, world economics and globalization, Global Citizenship, and Critical Thinking in American Government.  While teaching in the 21st Century Program, Rick has organized and attended seven international field trips to fourteen different countries in three different continents.  One of his goals is try to get international experiential learning implemented at Pikes Peak Prep due to the incredible benefits witnessed in students’ academic and personal growth.  During his fourteen years of teaching, Rick has taught grades 6 – 12.  He is very excited to learn from the great talent pool at Pikes Peak Prep and to start teaching in this new endeavor.
