Fourth & Fifth Grade Math/Science Teacher, 5th Grade Social Studies Teacher

Hello, my name is Heather Bowen, and I am honored to be part of the team at Pikes Peak Prep as the 4th and 5th grade Math/Science teacher.  I feel like education is my calling and gives me great purpose.  It is a blessing to fuel the growth of young minds.  I see my role as an educator as an opportunity to get children excited to learn and explore their world.  I want them to see that the possibilities are truly endless when you put in hard work and maintain a positive attitude.

I grew up in Colorado Springs, and after I finished high school, I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in Elementary Education.  I completed my Bachelor’s Degree at Trinity Western University in British Columbia.  Then, I returned to Colorado to complete my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at Regis University in Denver.  I worked in north Denver for several years before deciding to move back to Colorado Springs to be closer to my family and friends.

I have also had valuable opportunities to teach in different countries.  In 2006, I spent several months in Madrid, Spain teaching English as a second language.  I had the privilege of working with all types of language learners, ages 7-70.  It was a fulfilling and challenging experience to learn a new language and culture.  In 2014, I spent several weeks observing and teaching in schools in Auckland, New Zealand. I absolutely loved New Zealand, and I believe the knowledge I acquired from this experience has made me a better teacher.

In my spare time, I love to teach and practice yoga.  I love being outdoors and connected with nature, and I often go for trail runs with my boxer, Luna.  She is a sweet, playful dog, and she brings me a lot of joy.  I am an amateur guitar player, and I love to create memorable songs for the classes that I teach.  I would like to continue to travel and hike more “14ers” (mountains over 14,000 feet).

I am dedicated to guiding each child in my classroom to success.  I want everyone to feel safe, valued, and appropriately challenged.  I look forward to an amazing year!
